한국불교의 다양한 전통과 문화를 소개하는 최초의 영문 한국불교 백과사전이다. 1,600년 한국불교의 모습을 570여 개의 표제어와 180여 컷의 사진에 담았다. 외국인의 눈높이에 맞춰 항목을 선정하고 알기 쉽게 설명하여, 한국의 불교문화를 이해하는 길잡이 역할을 한다.


저자소개

Ven. Hyewon

Ven. Hyewon(慧謜) got her doctorate from Dongguk University (“Research on Chinese Northern School of Chan”北宗禪硏究). She has published three books, including A Dictionary of Seon Terminology (禪語事典), and translated works such as How to Read Recorded Seon Sayings. She was the dean of the College of Buddhist Studies, and has served as the director of the Korean Buddhist Research Institute. She is currently serving as a professor of the department of Buddhist studies atDongguk, lecturing about the history of Chinese Chan Buddhism, Seon (Chan, Zen) and aesthetics, and related subjects.

David A. Mason

David A. Mason has been exploring Korean Buddhism, Korean mountains, and other aspects of traditional Korean culture for over three decades. He is well-known as a lecturer, researcher, writer, editor and tourguide. This is his 9th book on Korea, and his website is http://www.san-shin.org. He is currently a professor of Cultural Tourism at NamSeoul University, and the national Honorary Ambassador of the Baekdu-daegan Mountain-Range.
